PRESS RELEASE: Erin Kerpel Awarded Maureen Wener Public Service Award

The West Deerfield Township Democratic Organization is delighted to announce the selection of Erin Kerpel as the second annual recipient of the Maureen Wener Public Service Award. This non-partisan award is given to an individual who exemplifies commitment to making our community a better place to live. Maureen Wener, for whom this award is named, was a model of public service and sadly was killed by a hit-and-run driver in June of 2023. Before her untimely death, she served for many years as Treasurer of the West Deerfield Township Democratic Organization and had also served as President of the Deerfield Library Board and as a member of the District 109 School Board.

In the same spirit, Erin Kerpel is a cofounder of Gratitude Generation, whose mission is to instill in young people a spirit of giving through education and service. Through Erin’s leadership as its Director of Service, Gratitude Generation has built 207 lasting partnerships with local nonprofits and directly impacted more than 42,000 individuals across Lake and Cook Counties.

The award presentation, followed by a reception, will take place at the Deerfield Public Library, on Sunday, October 12, from 2 – 3:30 p.m. The public is invited.
