Caruso Middle School Athletes Honored

Caruso 8th Grade Girls' Basketball Team Honored With Conference Championship Banner

On May 15, 2019, Deerfield Public Schools honored the Caruso Middle School 8th grade girls’ basketball team at an all school assembly. A Conference Championship banner was dedicated and raised to commemorate the team’s first place victory in the 2019 Central Suburban Middle School Conference Championship.

The team, Dara Carson, Anna Catella, Sophie Engerman, Lexi Kerstein, Nikki Kerstein, McKenzie Reitmayer, Madison Seward and Reese Shapiro, along with their coach, Mr Dennis Jensen and parents gathered with school administration in the gymnasium to commemorate the success achieved by the team. This is the first time a Caruso girls’ basketball team has won a first place Conference Championship. Additionally, this team won a second place title in 2018. Many members of this team have played school, feeder and club basketball together from an early age.

The banner dedication ceremony was held at half-time during Caruso’s annual faculty vs students exhibition game. The girls’ team coach, Mr Dennis Jensen, officiated the event. There were very few fouls called during this energetic, highly friendly game. The 8th grade boys and girls joined forces on a student team to defeat the faculty. While the faculty scored 22 points the student team dominated the game with a final score of 49 points.
