Dating App Fraud Costs Resident $22K: Blotter
A resident was convinced by someone claiming to be an investment broker to deposit money into fraudulent accounts: Riverwoods Blotter.
RIVERWOODS, IL — The following information comes from the Riverwoods Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

ARRESTS
- Guy Jay Gunia, 38, of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, disobeying a red flashing light, and was arrested at 11:34 p.m. July 29 at Milwaukee Avenue and Deerfield Road. He was released on a $3,000 bond and assigned a court date of Sept. 8 in Waukegan.
- Tomas Valadez, 25, of the 9100 block of S Troy Avenue, Evergreen Park, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, and was arrested at 4:31 a.m. July 31 near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. He was released on a $3,000 bond and assigned a court date of Sept. 8 in Waukegan.
- Claudio Alexander Salay Martinez, 32, of the 800 block of Half Day Road, Highland Park, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, open transportation of alcohol, and was arrested at 2:01 a.m. Aug. 1 near Lake Cook Road and CCH Drive. He was released on a $3,000 bond and assigned a court date of Sept. 8 in Waukegan.
- Samantha R. Flores, 23, of the 100 block of S Pincrest Road, Boilingbrook, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, expired registration, and was arrested at 3:57 a.m. Aug. 1 after being seen passed out behind the wheel of a running car at Lake Cook and Saunders roads. She was released on a $3,000 bond and assigned a court date of Sept. 8 in Waukegan.
- Jovan G. Gardiner, 34, of the 5100 block of N Lotus Street, Chicago, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, speeding, and was arrested at 1:24 a.m. Aug. 2 at Lake Cook and Portwine roads. He was released on a $3,000 bond and assigned a court date of Sept. 8 in Waukegan.
- Christos Cios, 27, of the 5800 block of Bernard Street, Chicago, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, and was arrested at 3:42 a.m. July 25 near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. He was released on a $3,000 bond and assigned a court date of Aug. 25 in Waukegan.
- Salina M. Cygan, 39, of the 4400 block of Bell Lane, Hanover Park, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, and was arrested at 3:33 a.m. July 18 near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. She was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Aug. 18 in Waukegan.
- Roxanne Y Montelongo, 33, of the 5100 block of Sawyer Avenue, Chicago, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, lane usage, driving with no license, and was arrested at 2:54 am. July 7 near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. She was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Aug. 11 in Waukegan.
ASSAULT

Kamil Daniel Donda, 37, of the 2200 block of West Course Drive, Riverwoods, is accused of assault, and was arrested at 6:44 p.m. July 7. He was released on a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of Aug. 11 in Waukegan.

A Riverwoods Road resident reported at 8 a.m. July 30 that they communicated with a person on a dating app in March who claimed to be an investment broker and convinced the victim to deposit over $22,000 in what turned out to be fraudulent investment accounts.
RUSE BURGLARY
A resident of the 2700 block of Sunset Trail reported at 7:17 p.m. July 14 a ruse burglary. The two men distracted the senior resident outside the home telling the resident they were there to trim trees. One of the suspects made entry to the home while the resident was distracted and went through drawers. It is unknown yet what was taken. Both suspects left when the resident threatened to call the police. Further investigation found the suspects may have left in a black Jeep Cherokee SUV.
