Deerfield District 109 Community Donated Over $150,000 In 2018
Students, parents and educators in the district contributed to more than 25 projects throughout the year.

DEERFIELD, IL — During 2018, efforts from the District 109 community to support more than two dozen projects raised over $150,000 on top of volunteer hours and a variety of supplies to charitable organizations, Pioneer Press reported.
Donations from District 109 students included more than $92,000 raised for the Jump Rope for Heart Program by Kipling, Wilmot and Walden elementary schools. Two of the schools were among the top five fundraisers in Illinois in the American Heart Association's program, according to the Deerfield Review.
At South Park Elementary School, teachers provided 6,000 books to Lake Bluff-based Bernie's Book Bank, and students raised $5,000 to fill hundreds of backpacks that an anonymous donor had contributed with school supplies during an assembly before they were distributed to kids in less wealthy school districts through Cradles for Crayons Chicago, according to the report. At Caruso Middle School, students raised more $10,000 in support of Aaron's Coffee Corner, a charity started by the family of a classmate with a rare metabolic condition that provides comfort through donated coffee stations in the pediatric intensive care unit.
