Deerfield Patch Honors High School Graduates: Class Of 2020

Let's congratulate our Class of 2020 high school graduates in Deerfield.

DEERFIELD, IL — Deerfield Patch wants to share the achievements of local high school graduates by putting them in the spotlight over the next few weeks. Due to the coronavirus, in-person instruction has canceled the rest of the 2019-2020 school year in Illinois. We know these wonderful seniors are missing out on some of the last moments of the school year.

We hope that this will give the community a way to share their pride in our Class of 2020 high school graduates. You can find the form here if you'd like to add your graduate. Patch will be updating this form until May 31.

Ashley Kamen, Deerfield High School

Ashley was a member of the varsity swimming and water polo team at DHS. She will be attending the University Wisconsin Eau Claire and studying elementary education.

James Bickmore, Deerfield High School

He will be attending the University of Nebraska for business.

Olivia Grace Figura, Deerfield High School

Olivia enjoys writing, fashion and design. She is attending University of Arizona as an information and E society major while also minoring in journalism.

Ellie will be attending the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Emma Morgan, Deerfield High School

Emma played tennis for two years and was a captain for one of them. She participated in warrior buddies with an office position. She will attend University of Kansas for special education.

Shaylee was all-conference for cross country. She will be studying psychology at Tulane University.

Jackie Trachtenberg, Deerfield High School

Jackie took great interest in gymnastics, cross country, and track. When hip surgeries curtailed her active participation, she still loved being a part of the team by helping the coaches. She was also a member of the Scholastic Bowl team and SOS club. During her senior year, she also volunteered as a student teacher in a sophomore biology class. As a result of her accomplishments she was honored by being inducted into Deerfield HS Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. She is attending University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to study biology.

Malori Killoren, Deerfield High School

Malori will be attending Indiana University.

Bradley Gottlieb, Deerfield High School

Bradley is in DECA, Warrior Buddies, Prep League Basketball and Camp Kawaga. He will be attending the University of Michigan.

Jordyn Eisenberg, Deerfield High School

Jordyn loves art, music, science, and spending time with her friends. She will attend New York University to study pediatric neurology.

Jack Coronel, Deerfield High School

Jack has worked for six years with children with disabilities. His passion is helping each individual child try to succeed at something. He will attend Bowling Green State University in the fall for pre-law.

Amy has been on the badminton team for the last three years and this year was voted to be one of the captains for the team. She loves art, expressing her self through her photography and digital art. She will be attending the University of Miami where she can continue to explore her love of graphic design, sunshine and sailing.

Charlotte earned a Seal of Biliteracy (Spanish), and was a member of Honor Society, Cross Country Team, Design/Build Crew for DHS Theater Productions, Co-Editor of Troubadour (DHS Art and Literary Magazine), Mural selected by Deerfield Fine Arts Commissions to hang in Jewett Park Community Center, Counselor at Journey's End Farm Camp. Charlotte received the Rachel Carson Scholarship to attend Chatham University to study sustainable urban agriculture and Spanish.

Jordan Friedman, Deerfield High School

Jordan's interests included music, crew and D&D. He will be attending Columbia College for music conducting.

Sawyer Brooke Fleishman, Deerfield High School

Sawyer was a three-year varsity field hockey player and captain; Academic Resource Center tutor; Senior Advisor; DECA state competitor; Lake Forest Hospital volunteer. She will be attending Vanderbilt University for pre-med with a major in Medicine, Health and Society.

Tyler enjoyed being part of DECA and PE Leaders program. Outside of school, highlights were playing in the Park District High School Basketball League and being Sports Camp Counselor at the Deerfield Park District. He will attend Lake Forest College.

Zachary was an exceptional DHS student. He excelled in Mathematics, Science and as a Member of the Spanish Honor Society. He was a Senior P.E. Leader, involved in DECA, played basketball, ran a successful virtual Madden Football League, worked two jobs and graduates high school having simultaneously completed 1.5 years of college. He will continue our family tradition at the University of Illinois, studying Financial Planning, Statistics and Sports Management.

Dylan Samuel Weiss, Deerfield High School

Dylan is graduating with high honors. Dylan was a dedicated member of Marching Band, and Senior Drum Captain. Dylan never missed a performance or practice in four years. He was Percussion Section Leader for Symphonic Band. Watching Dylan play in Honors Jazz Band and the Percussion ensemble was so great to see. We are amazed that Dylan has learned to play so many instruments, including drums, bass, upright bass and saxophone along with all of the percussion pieces needed in school productions, which were highlights of his high school career. His rock band participation was exciting to watch as well. Dylan's academics were impressive, and he worked very hard for his great grades. Dylan also enjoys skiing, golf and snorkeling, as well as being an avid, high level gamer. He will attend Miami University (Ohio) on a partial scholarship, where he will study microbiology and play in the Marching Band.

Maggie loved being involved in Choir, Theatre, Warrior Buddies and Peer Coaching. Maggie's trademark perseverance, empathy, and positive attitude were a part of everything she did! Maggie will be attending Southern Illinois University to study Therapeutic Recreation. Her work with Warrior Buddies, NSSRA, and Misericordia over the years have inspired her to work in the field of special recreation.

Avery was a 4-year varsity member, choreographer, and co-captain of the state champion Warrior Dance Team, DHS Yearbook editor-in-chief, 4-year Dance Company choreographer. She will be attending Ohio State University for communications.

Amy Weiner, Deerfield High School

Amy has enjoyed being deeply involved in the DHS community. She served on Student Council for 4 years, including roles as Executive Board Member and Officer. In addition, she participated in DECA, served as an Academic Resource Center tutor, and played on the tennis team. She is an Illinois State Scholar, member of DHS Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, and recipient of the Optimist Club of Deerfield Service Recognition Award. Outside of school, Amy has served as the junior board co-president for an organization focused on raising funds for GI cancer research. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends. She will be attending the University of Pennsylvania.

Maya Geren, Deerfield High School

Maya is involved with Cross Country, Track, DECA, Loves Yogurt Connoisseur, Legal Aid Clinic, Whitehall Volunteer, and ARC Tutor. She will be attending the University of Illinois to study Math and Computer Science.

Talia Katz, Deerfield High School

In addition, Talia was honored by being inducted into the Deerfield Honors and the Spanish Honors societies. She was a Senior teacher and an Academic Resource Center tutor. In her spare time, Talia has volunteered to help children with special needs and has started her own graphic design business. She will be attending Ohio State.

Brady was co-president of the Legal Aid Clinic, 5 year peer mentor to his friend and buddy at Special Gifts Theater along with Warrior Buddies, DECA and tennis to name a few. Always up for an adventure and hard to catch on a snowboard. He will attend Pitzer College, a member of the Claremont Colleges, in the fall.

Sarah has been a figure skater since the age of three and a member is the Northbrook Park District Icette Team since freshman year. She is also a member of the Deerfield High School Honor Society and the Hebrew Honor Society. She will be attending Ohio State University and studying architecture.

Amanda has been a member of the DHS theatre and choral community for four years. She is so sad to have missed out on her final (cancelled) production at DHS this Spring, but cherishes every show and cast of which she was fortunate to be a part. She will attend the University of Miami.

National Honor Society, Spanish HS, National Society of High School Scholars, and the Deerfield Optimist Club Service Recognition Award. She is an AP Scholar with Honor, IL State Scholar, and in the NHS. Brianna received the CHA Distinguished Athletic Achievement Award, competing in Volleyball and Soccer, with Second Team All-Conference in Volleyball and All-Conference Honorable Mention and team captain in Soccer, and was an NAC Scholar Athlete. Brianna loved being involved in CHA Theatre, having a lead role in the last three productions. She participates in the worship team and teaching kids at North Suburban Church. She will attend Biola University, majoring in Education.

Madelyn was named an Illinois State Scholar for Outstanding Academic Achievement. She is an artist and her mural, Forest With Frog And Peacock was chosen to hang on the AT&T building in downtown Deerfield. She is an avid cyclist and won a bronze medal in the Chequamegon Short and Fat mountain bike race. She was also the recipient of multiple Illinois High School Art Exhibition (IHSAE) Scholarship Awards. Maddi will be attending the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, where she was awarded the Board of Trustees Scholarship and plans to major in Illustration and Digital Media.

Sander is a member of the Deerfield High School Honor Society, and a four-year member of both Deerfield Warrior Buddies and Social Outreach Services clubs. His interest in film-making brought him two Crystal Pillar Award nominations by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He is the recipient of the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, and a nominee of the John F. Kennedy Medal of Honor Award, the recipient of which will be announced at graduation on June 2. Sander devoted time to the community by speaking to elementary school students about autism and inclusion practices. He was offered admission to New York University Tisch School of the Arts (Kanbar Institute of Film and Television) and other schools, and weighing options with a decision in the immediate future.

Cassidy's interest in medicine led her last summer to spend a month in Ghana working in a medical outreach program which including giving medical care to people recovering from leprosy. She has participated in many charities including spearheading her own charity to raise money for melanoma research. She is a two time award recipient from the Optimist Club. Cassidy was a member of Deca, Mathletes, Key club, Spanish Honors Society and art club. She played soccer for all four years of high school, and also participated in cross country and field hockey. Cassidy loves children, babysitting often, and works at Midtown in the Kids Club. She will be attending the Honors Program at Ohio State University with a pre-med focus.
