Deerfield Plan Commission Gives Go-Ahead To 240-Unit Senior Housing Proposal

Rents would range between $3,200 and $6,950 per month at the proposed independent living facility.

DEERFIELD, IL — A proposal to add 240 units of housing aimed at senior citizens was unanimously approved by the Deerfield Plan Commission Thursday. The proposal would expand the Weinberg Community Development on the south side of Lake Cook Road near Wilmot Road, and it would bring the total number of new apartments that have been proposed or built in Deerfield over the past two years to 728, the Deerfield Review reports.

The new development will include a mix of apartments of up to two bedrooms and their own kitchens for between $3,200 a month (for a studio) and $6,950 per month (for the largest units), according to the newspaper. Plans also include an indoor swimming pool, a beauty shop, coffee shop, computer room, library, exercise facilities and a large landscaped terrace.

"This is designed to help people move from independent to assisted living," said an attorney for the project's backers at last week's commission meeting.
