Deerfield Students Win 1st Place At State Science Fair

The students, who attend Hellenic American Academy in Deerfield, competed at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale last weekend.

DEERFIELD, IL — It was a weekend filled with gold for four Deerfield students from Hellenic American Academy. The students won the team competition, as well as four gold medals and two special awards, at the State Illinois Junior Academy of Science Fair at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale this past weekend.

The students competed in Division C. The winners are:

  • Dean Tranas - Gold Medal (physics)
  • Yianna Drossos - Gold Medal and Special Award (Health Science Category)
  • Evangelia Tsatsaronis - Gold Medal in microbiology & "Thermo Fisher" Special Award
  • Abby Nosovitsky - Gold Medal (health science)
