DYBA/DYSBA Announces New Board for 2019/20
Continuing Deerfield's Storied Boys Baseball and Girls Softball Traditions
Deerfield Youth Baseball and Softball Association (DYBA/DYSBA) elected a new Board of Directors at their meeting on October 7, 2019. DYBA/DYSBA promotes and operates house league and travel baseball and softball for children in the greater-Deerfield community, and serves as the official feeder program for Deerfield High School Baseball and Softball. The association, which has been in existence for more than 60 years, has traditionally been recognized by neighboring communities as one of the most successful youth sports organizations in the area.
DYBA/DYSBA elected the following Board of Directors for 2019/20: Commissioner, Paul Chanan; Assistant Commissioner, Ryan Twose; Immediate Past Commissioner, Dan McGrath; Secretary, Emily Nagler; Treasurer, Art Silverman; Technology/Registration, Joe Sanger; Fundraising, Paige Farber and Jeff Samuels; Publicity, Jamie Izaks; Equipment, Matt Lusardi and Renee Haase; Fields, Mike Danielewicz; Umpires, Mike Strauss; House Baseball, Harley Rosenthal; House Softball, Lauren Freedman and Jeseca Kileen; Travel Baseball, Todd Rubin and Brandon Nagler; and Travel Softball, Lara Richie and Jay Silber.
The organization also formally recognized several outgoing board members for their positive contributions to the children of the Deerfield community. Recognized were Mike Irvine, former Assistant Commissioner; Jon Gault, former Director of Fields; Terry Platt, former Co-Director of Travel Baseball; Rob Reddy, former Co-Director of Travel Baseball; and Dan McNair, former Co-Director of House Baseball.

New Commissioner Paul Chanan, who previously served on the Board as both Secretary and Co-Director of Travel Baseball, has also served on DYBA’s Travel Baseball coaching staff for the past eleven years.
“DYBA has been a huge part of my life, dating back to 1976, when I started playing T-ball in Deerfield,” said Chanan. “My son played all of his youth house and travel baseball here, and my daughter took part in several DYBA softball clinics. They, as well as the thousands of other ball-players who have come through the DYBA program over the decades, have learned so many valuable life-lessons that are best taught on the field: work ethic, dedication, teamwork, good sportsmanship, winning with class, and losing with dignity. For the families of Deerfield, DYBA is part of the lifeblood of the community, as so many of our boys and girls have literally grown up on our diamonds.”

Chanan looks forward to working with the new Board in continuing to create the best overall baseball and softball experiences for the boys and girls of Deerfield.
“Very few things make me happier than being out on the ball-fields in Deerfield, watching kids smiling, laughing, and working together, all while playing what I believe is the greatest game ever invented.”
Registration for 2020 DYBA/DYSBA Spring Baseball and Softball will open within the next two months. Information about all DYBA/DYSBA Baseball and Softball programs can be found at DYBA.com.
