Elect David S. Greenberg and Republican Slate for Moraine Township

I've been involved with politics in one way or another since I was 2 years old, so it was hardly surprising when I became involved in politics in Highland Park more than a decade ago. I have consistently espoused the values of: Fiscal Conservatism, Ethics, and Honesty. Part of being fiscally conservative is continually looking at the business processes in place to become more effective and efficient, and my strong business and analytical skills have afforded me the ability to focus on the issue at hand and come up with the best solution for all involved. Recognizing that the money available is limited, I have called for us to focus on our Needs instead of our Wants.

I have stood up in countless meetings in front of the City Council, School Districts, and Park District over the years and called for just that. I have called for consolidation and collaboration between governmental entities and I'm pleased as punch every time I see this happening. The City's Highlander newsletter costs being shared with the school districts, et. al saves us money and reduces the impact to the environment. The City working with other governments to make bulk purchases reduces our costs and helps others in the region to do the same, which tends to have a positive, albeit it indirect, effect on our property values.

So it should come as no surprise that my attention was piqued when I learned that the Township had purchased a building for $1.6 million. When I learned that it was because their lease was ending and they wanted to avoid future rent increases, I naturally asked myself: "How much is the rent?" The rent being under $100,000/year this deal didn't make sense. The payoff ("ROI" in MBA parlance) is about 16 years, and most savvy businesspersons look for an ROI between 18 months, with 36 months being as far out as they'd usually consider.

When one adds in some additional costs: On-going maintenance, and future capital replacement/upgrade needs, this deal made even less sense. Further add in the fact that a rented building generates Property Tax revenue and an owned building does not and I was simply bewildered that this deal was made. We can consider a million different reasons why.

Certainly many of us have heard the rumors swirling around and we could debate those all day. But I find it most effective to simply focus on the fact that it's a bad deal that's going to waste the taxpayer's money.
When I did some more digging and heard about inefficiencies in the operations of the food pantries, senior transports, and cemeteries I chose to run for Moraine Township Supervisor to get things back on track.
This isn't about preserving or expanding a fiefdom of an incumbent, it's about crafting and keeping the best balance between the needs of the Taxpayers and the Clients of the Township. To that end, we need Accountability, Consolidation, and Transparency.

Accountability in how the money is spent. Consolidation with other governmental agencies to simultaneously reduce costs while providing high-quality and effective services to the clients; and Transparency so the Taxpayer can see where her money is spent, and why.
