Halloween Traffic Safety Campaign Results Out For Lake County: Sheriff
The fall enforcement campaign ran from Oct. 18 through Nov. 1.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — While local youngsters were out trick-or-treating or engaging in other Halloween-related activities last month, the Lake County Sheriff's Office was making sure they were safe. As part of its annual Halloween Traffic Safety Campaign, officers made two arrests, and handed out 56 traffic citations. The effort ran from Oct. 18 through Nov. 1.
The enforcement effort was made possible through federal highway safety funds provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Two impaired drivers, one of whom was also charged with endangering the life of a child for a passenger in the car. In addition, 21 motorists were cited for speeding, four drivers were cited for driving without a valid license, and two citations for child safety seat violations. In all, 65 vehicles were stopped.

The statewide effort is intended to save lives by removing impaired drivers from the roads and ensuring more drivers and passengers were properly buckled up. The campaign was part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" initiatives.
Police said special attention was given to late-night enforcement, adding that data shows that this is when the highest number of impaired driving incidents and unbuckled fatalities occur.
