Head of Chicago Magnet School Named New Deerfield HS Principal

District 113 board approves a 3-year contract for Kathryn Anderson during a special meeting Monday.

DEERFIELD, IL—Kathryn Anderson was named the new principal of Deerfield High School by the Township High School District 113 board on Monday.

The board approved Anderson's three-year contract, which is effective July 1, at a special meeting Monday, June 6. Anderson—who has been the principal at Lane Tech College Prep, a public four-year magnet school in Chicago, since September—takes over for Christopher Dignam, who was named D113 superintendent in February. His first day in that new role is June 17.

“We were incredibly impressed with Ms. Anderson’s outstanding background in curriculum and instruction, as well as her collaborative, student-centered approach towards leadership in a high-performing high school,” board President Annette Lidawer stated in a district press release.

Anderson was approved by the board after a search-and-interview process that narrowed the field down to six candidates. Those candidates were interviewed by Dignam and the district's interim human resources director, and three finalists were chosen. The finalists then were interviewed by a 19-member stakeholder team.
