Hit-And-Run Driver Strikes 12-Year-Old In Deerfield: Police

Police said they are looking for the driver of a Ford Escape with damage to its passenger side headlight assembly.

DEERFIELD, IL — Police asked the public for help identifying a hit-and-run driver who struck and badly injured a 12-year-old child Friday.

At 7:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a person hit by a car at the corner of Deerfield Road and Beverly Place, according to Deerfield police. They found an unconscious child lying in the road and suffering extensive injuries.

The Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Department took the child to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville before they were transferred to a children's hospital in Chicago, police said. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was called in to help investigate.

Police said the driver of an SUV headed west on Deerfield Road hit the boy and kept going, citing the preliminary results of the investigation.

Investigators are looking to identify and locate the driver of a dark-colored Ford Escape — between model years 2013 to 2016 and with the SEL or Titanium trim package.

Police said it might have extensive damage to its headlight assembly on the passenger side, as well as to its grill and fender.
