Human Remains Found In Riverwoods: Police

The Lake County Coroner's Office confirmed the discovery in the 1800 block of Robinwood Lane.

RIVERWOODS, IL — The remains of a human were discovered Tuesday morning in the 1800 block of Robinwood Lane. The Riverwoods Police Department made the announcement, and the Lake County Coroner's Office confirmed the finding to Patch. The person's bones were thought to have been in the area for some time.

According to police, the discovery was made at around 8:20 a.m. A Lake County Public Works employee, while conducting routine maintenance, discovered what appeared to be bones in a wooded area.

Officers arrived on scene and determined the bones appeared to be of human origin. The Lake County Coroner's Office responded and also confirmed the bones appeared to be human. It was not immediately clear how long it would take to determine the cause of death or how long the body had been there prior to discovery.

Both police and the coroner's office said it appears the body had been there for an extended period of time. The person's age, gender and cause of death are currently unknown.

"We're going to be sitting down with our anthropologist and we're going to be able to examine everything," said Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper. "Trying to do everything at the scene was just too difficult, unfortunately. We were outside, in a public area, and it was raining."

According to police, there is no threat to the community. A further investigation will continue with the assistance of the Lake County Coroner's Office and Lake County Major Crime Task Force evidence technicians.
