Kates Road Bridge Construction Can Begin In Deerfield
With a state budget passed Thursday, IDOT has lifted its roadwork moratorium and construction can go ahead.

DEERFIELD, IL — The Village of Deerfield announced that can now get underway due to the passage of an Illinois state budget when lawmakers overrode Governor Bruce Rauner's veto Thursday. Funding for the project comes, in part, from federal money passed through the state to the village, and the Illinois Department of Transporation had halted all road construction projects that involve state money until the passage of a budget.
Deerfield officials said the contractor performing the bridge work on the Pfingston/Kates Road bridge, Lorig Construction, needs up to a week to fully mobilize and begin working on the project. However, the delay is not expected impact the schedule substantially. Work is still slated to end by Thanksgiving, according to an announcement from the Village of Deerfield. The Village Board awarded a contract to Lorig to fully reconstruct the bridge for just over $2 million in March. The project includes replacing the bridge deck, grinding and resurfacing Pfingsten/Kates Road between Lake Cook and Waukegan roads, repairing any pavement failures, performing some minor drainage improvements and modernizing the traffic signal at the intersection with Corporate 500 Drive.
An inspection in April found cracks on the underside of the bridge and determined it was structurally deficient.

The federal government is covering 80 percent of the cost of the project. The Village of Deerfield is paying the remaining 20 percent.
