Kathy Kathrein's Artwork Featured at YMCA in April
The North Suburban YMCA Will Showcase Local Artist's Paintings of Cities, Wet Streets, and More

Cities, wet streets, flowers and weeds are some of the beautiful things that artist Kathy Kathrein enjoys painting. “The exhibit includes all of these subjects,” said Kathrein, about her artwork April showcase at the North Suburban YMCA’s Community Gallery.
Kathrein has a degree in art from Southern Illinois University and has taught art for 20 years. “My subject matter has changed throughout the years,” said Kathrein. “I did landscapes and abstract expressionism when I was young. I later began working with a digital camera. The camera reveals details that are often not visible to the naked eye.” Kathrein says she doesn’t have a big message in her artwork, but always aims to capture the mood of the subject. One of her favorite subjects is to paint pictures of Chicago that combine nature and architecture.
New local artists are featured monthly at the North Suburban YMCA’s Community Gallery. All the artwork on display is for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to the North Suburban YMCA’s Visual Arts Program.
