Kevin's Place Closes for Good

Popular Deerfield restaurant owned by Kevin Quigley no longer open at Deerfield and Waukegan roads.

DEERFIELD, IL - One of the most popular restaurants in Deerfield has closed for good.

Kevin’s Place, the name of the eatery at 808 Waukegan Road since 2005, has seen the end of the road owner Kevin Quigley confirmed on Facebook this week.

“Sorry to wear my emotions on my shirt sleeve,” wrote Quigley, 57, who suffers from esophageal cancer. “Today I closed Kevin’s Place.”

He said owning the restaurant he had worked at for 13 years before buying it was “a dream of mine and a place where friends helped me… Hopefully I helped others make their dreams come true.”

The final day Kevin’s Place can operate at the location near the busy Deerfield and Waukegan Road intersection is March 15, the Deerfield Review reports.

Quigley nearly saw the end of the road around this time last year, but a GoFundMe account set up by other small business owners in Deerfield and Highland Park raised $20,000 and allowed Kevin’s Place to remain afloat for another year.

A similar effort began in late February this year - and a fundraiser event had tentatively been planned for March 6 - but a friend of Quigley’s confirmed Tuesday that the restaurant is in fact closing.

In just five days of this year’s fundraising effort, nearly $5,000 from 62 people had been donated.

Before Quigley purchased the restaurant in 2005, it was called “Cherry Pit.”
