Lake County Sheriff's Deputies Make 73 Traffic Stops During Safety Campaign

The Memorial Day enforcement effort included arrests for DUI, driving without a valid license, along with speeding and seat belt citations.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office made 73 traffic stops during a Memorial Day traffic safety campaign, officials announced.

The sheriff’s office joined state and local law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners for the campaign, which ran from May 15-26.

During that time, sheriff’s deputies logged 41 hours of dedicated enforcement time, according to the sheriff’s office.

The campaign resulted in:

  • 1 arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol
  • 5 arrests for driving without a valid driver’s license
  • 9 speeding citations
  • 7 citations for failure to wear a seat belt
  • 3 citations for using a cellphone while driving
  • 40 other traffic citations

The “Click It or Ticket” initiative is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
