Lake County Sheriff's Office Steps Up DUI, Seat Belt Enforcement For Labor Day

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Drivers can expect increased traffic enforcement across Lake County beginning Friday as sheriff’s deputies join a statewide Labor Day crackdown on impaired driving and seat belt violations.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with more than 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.

The enforcement period runs from Aug. 14 through Sept. 8.

Deputies To Target Impaired Driving

Sheriff’s deputies will conduct additional traffic enforcement focused on motorists suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, along with drivers who are not wearing seat belts.

The campaign will also target other dangerous driving behaviors.

The local effort is part of a broader statewide initiative supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT support the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.

The enforcement effort is being reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” public-awareness campaign, which is running on radio, television and digital platforms.

The campaign emphasizes the potentially deadly consequences of impaired driving and encourages motorists to make safe decisions before getting behind the wheel.
