Paintings by Laura Coyle Show "Another Journey" at the North Suburban YMCA Community Art Gallery
An exhibit of paintings by Laura Coyle, including "Ophelia's Ephiphany," is on display at the North Suburban YMCA's Community Gallery.

A show of vibrant paintings by Chicago-based artist Laura Coyle is on display during the month of January at the North Suburban YMCA’s Community Gallery. Entitled “Another Journey,” the work includes subjects inspired by Shakespeare with a 21st-century bend.
The public is invited to a reception for Ms. Coyle on Sunday, January 18th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the North Suburban YMCA, located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbook.
“I like to keep a sense of humor while being very detailed and precise,” Coyle explained. “My style is representational but not necessarily realistic.” The vibrant colors and lively brushwork she incorporates add energy to her surfaces.
One of the pieces in the show is called “Ophelia’s Epiphany.” It portrays the character Ophelia from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, as though she changed her mind about drowning herself, sat up and said “Now what?” This is one of a series Coyle has painted of Ophelia, which was inspired by a visit to the Tate Museum in London.
Ms. Coyle has been a professional fine artist and graphic designer for over 20 years. Her work has been shown in solo and group shows both nationally and throughout the Chicago area. All of the art in the show is for sale, and a portion of the purchase price will benefit the North Suburban YMCA’s Visual Arts Program.
The next exhibitor in the Community Gallery will be Julie Allen, showing her whimsical illustrations.
