'Please Be Vigilant' As Kids Return To School: Deerfield Mayor
Through Aug. 31, Deerfield police are increasing enforcement in an effort to reduce traffic collisions involving pedestrians and bicyclists.
DEERFIELD, IL — School is back in session. Students at Deerfield High School returned to class on Wednesday, with Deerfield Public School District 109 head back Monday.
Following the deaths of three residents in accidents involving motor vehicles this summer, Deerfield Mayor Dan Shapiro is reminding people to "be vigilant in watching for buses, children walking to school and bikers in our neighborhoods."
In his latest e-newsletter to residents, Shapiro noted that the Deerfield Police Department is conducting extra enforcement through Aug. 31 in an effort to reduce traffic collisions involving pedestrians and bicyclists using funds from a state grant. According to Shapiro, areas with high pedestrian/bicyclist traffic, such as downtown Deerfield, school zones, and high-crash zones will be targeted by Deerfield officers.
