Registration is Open for Memorial Day Essence of Freedom Run

Registration is open for the Annual Essence of Freedom Memorial Day 5K/10K run on May, 29 at 7:45 a.m. in Deerfield, IL.

The Essence of Freedom Run, which winds through the streets of Deerfield, Ill, raises funds desperately needed by the brave men and women both active duty and Veterans, who defend our country in the armed forces. Proceeds go to Illinois Veteran Assistance organizations. This run is the main fundraising event for Support Our Soldiers Freedom, Inc., a nonprofit founded by Marilee Papale.

“As a relative of armed forces members, I’m aware that many active duty and veteran men and women do not always get the support they need,” said Papale. “It’s an honor and a unique opportunity to run alongside these brave people on Memorial Day,” she said.

Active duty, including police and firefighters, can register for free. Registration for the 5K race is $35 through April 30 and $40 May 1-28. Registration for the 10K race is $50 through April 30 and $55 May 1-28.

Participants who register in advance will receive timing chips and are eligible for medals. Medals will be distributed by age group. There will also be medals for the best overall time for men and women.

In addition to the race, participants will enjoy an awards ceremony, breakfast and entertainment followed by the Memorial Day parade and ceremonies.
