Schneider Endorses Biss For Governor
U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider announced his endorsement of state Sen. Daniel Biss for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination Wednesday.

DEERFIELD, IL — The primary is still more than nine months away, but that hasn't stopped Democratic gubernatorial candidates from beginning to tout their endorsements. On Wednesday, Congressman Brad Schneider made his pick in the race, as he endorsed state Sen. Daniel Biss.
"I’ve had the distinct privilege of working with Daniel over the years, and quickly came to appreciate his intellect, his wisdom and especially his great character,” said 10th District U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider. “I’ve watched him boldly step up and lead on issues like income inequality, women’s health care, and protecting our environment."
Biss is a former University of Chicago math professor who has represented Evanston and other North Shore communities in the Illinois General Assembly since 2011, first as a state representative and as a state senator for the 9th District since 2013. His campaign has emphasized his independence from machine politics and said it is building a grassroots statewide movement for reform.

"Put simply, Daniel possesses the qualities we desperately need in our next governor: he is honest about our problems, unafraid to challenge conventional wisdom with new ideas, and keenly focused on what the people of Illinois need," Schneider said. "Daniel knows that by putting people first, we can tackle our state’s challenges head on, and secure a better future for Illinois's children. Because of his track record and his character, I'm proud to support Daniel."

“I’m honored to have Brad’s support in this race,” Biss said. “Brad has always been a thoughtful and valued partner at the federal level, consistently demonstrating what strong advocacy on behalf of his constituents looks like."

Schneider has represented the 10th District of Illinois in two non-consecutive terms, and Biss praised his work as a minority member in the House of Representatives.
"This has never been as urgent as it is today, as Brad is on the front lines of defending Illinois residents against Donald Trump's attacks," Biss said. "As a friend, an ally, and a leader, I’m excited to work with Brad on our critical mission to put people first, and take our state back.”
Last week, the Illinois AFL-CIO's executive board voted to endorse billionaire hotel heir J.B. Pritzker.
The campaign for Illinois governor in 2018 is projected to become the most expensive in US. history, according to the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform.
