Skate Park Shut Down Due To 'Minimal Compliance' Of Mask Rules
The Deerfield Park District made the decision based on local health concerns regarding rising coronavirus numbers.

DEERFIELD, IL — Citing an increase in local and statewide coronavirus cases, and minimal compliance of a mandatory face-covering requirement, the Deerfield Park District announced Monday it is shutting down the skate park at Jewett Park. The decision, announced in a social media post on Facebook, is until further notice.
The face-covering requirements were implemented on July 29.
"Since that time, park district staff and the Deerfield Police [Department] have worked together to inform park users of the requirement," the social media post reads. "Unfortunately, the compliance level is minimal and personal requests from district staff and police have been met with resistance. This is very unfortunate for the persons who were compliant"

According to the post, the Deerfield Park District staff will work with local officials on a way to reopen the park in a safer manner in the future.
Earlier this year, the Deerfield Park District rebuilt its poured concrete skateboard and in-line skate facility. The 11,000-square foot facility in the park, near the corner of Deerfield and Waukegan Roads.
