Spelling Bee for Seniors Planned by Deerfield Library
Library seeks contestants for May 15 event.

It turns out you don’t have to be in elementary school to be a spelling bee champion.
According to a community post on the Deerfield Review, the Deerfield Public Library and Patty Turner Center will combine to host a Senior Adult Spelling Bee on May 15.
Spellers ages 50 and over can enter by picking up a registration packet at the library at 920 Waukegan Rd. The deadline to register is April 15 and the bee will be limited to 15 contestants.

“The love of spelling definitely doesn’t stop with the end of one’s school days,” said Judy Hoffman, outreach coordinator for the library. “When the Bee first was announced, we had many people tell us with pride that they are great spellers. Some, though, are a little shy and planning to attend the Bee this year as an audience member.”
Each contestant will be “carded,” so organizers will be able to confirm they are in fact 50 years of age or older.

“We encourage those with the competitive spelling spirit to stop by the library to register while there are still openings,” Hoffman said.
