St. Gregory’s Children Reenact Last Supper

Religious school students use grape juice and matzo.

Children at played out the Last Supper of Christ April 1  (Palm Sunday) using grape juice instead of wine and Streit’s Matzos as the unleavened bread, according to a story in the Deerfield Review.

Congregant Julia Ariano, whose children Joe and Cate were part of the reenactment thinks it is a good way to give Holy Week meaning. “It really brings it to life for them,” she said in the story. “And the Palm Sunday service is a really long one. It gets hard on them.”

St. Gregory’s religious school teacher Shari Benson put the experience in perspective. “This is them (the children) reliving (the Last Supper) with matzos and grape juice,” she said in the story.
