State Report Card 2023: Find Out How Deerfield Schools Fared

The Illinois State Board of Education released its annual report on Monday.

DEERFIELD, IL — Is your school district making the grade? Annually, the Illinois State Board of Education releases a report that summarizes how the state, districts and individual schools are doing in a variety of areas.

On Monday, ISBE updates the report for schools and districts across the state. Academic performance, school environment, along with information about educators and students are included in the report.

"The Report Card offers a complete picture of student and school performance in order to inform and empower families and communities as they support their local schools," ISBE said on its website regarding Monday's release.

In Deerfield, Deerfield Public Schools District 109 and Township High School District 113 were graded. Here's a glance of how each fared:

Deerfield Public Schools District 109

  • No. of schools — 6 (Alan B. Shephard Middle, Charles J. Caruso Middle, Kipling Elementary School, South Park Elementary School, Walden Elementary School, Wilmot Elementary School)
  • 2 received an exemplary designation, which is the highest rating (Kipling and Walden)
  • 4 received a commendable designation, which is the second-highest rating (Alan B. Shephard, Charles J. Caruso, South Park, Wilmot)
  • 67 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in English Language Arts, compared to 35 percent in the state
  • 65 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Math, compared to 27 percent in the state
  • 72 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Science, compared to 51 percent in the state
  • 91 percent teacher retention rate in district
  • $22,269 spending per student, up 8.50 percent compared to 2022

Township High School District 113

  • No. of schools — 2 (Deerfield High School and Highland Park High School)
  • Both received a commendable designation (second-highest rating)
  • 95 percent graduation rate compared to 88 percent in state
  • 33 percent chronic absenteeism, compared to 28.3 percent in state
  • 95 percent teacher retention rate in district, compared to 90.2 percent in state
  • $31,851 spending per student, up 4.89 percent compared to 2022
