SWALCO to Drop Free Electronics Recycling Program
Gradual shutdown to begin December 18; Agency to explore additional funding options

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) plans to suspend its free electronics recycling program while exploring funding options, the Highland Park News reported on Monday.
Collections will begin to shut down on December 18, with a full closure planned to be in effect by December 30.
SWALCO officials indicated that until recently they have been able to secure contracts with electronics recyclers who could provide the service at no cost. But lately, the funding provided by manufacturers “is not sufficient,” and that SWALCO has had to augment the funding.
