Who Pays For Theater Lighting? HPHS Parents Say it Should be the District
Some board members agree that lighting is central to high school's mission.

Parents involved with Highland High School’s theater program are questioning who should pay for a project to improve the theater’s lighting.
Encore — Highland Park High School’s parent booster group — was planning to kick off a fundraising campaign with a goal to raise $100,000 ahead of the school’s production of “Les Miserables” in February.
But some have told the Deerfield Review that theater lighting is central to a high school’s mission and that the project should be funded from district revenues.

School Principal Tom Koulentes spoke at Monday’s District 113 board meeting and said he had been approached by parents “who firmly believe theater lights are a fundamental district obligation.”
Several school board members said they too felt the project should be financed from district funds.

“It is the district’s responsibility to take care of this,” trustee David Small told the Review.
