Tired of always buying the same items at the grocery store? Sometimes Patch is too. So, we've teamed up with the in Deerfield for the month of June. Each Sunday, an employee will highlight a speciality item at the grocery story and fill you in on what's so good about it. This week we're sitting down with Emily Schrass in the bakery department to talk about banana bread.
Patch: Tell me a little bit about this item.
Schrass: Our banana bread is made in-house by our baker Mario. Our Golden loaves are sweet and dense with an intense banana flavor. It is great served alone or with fresh fruit.

Patch: Why is it in season?
Schrass: Bananas are grown around the equator, in warm sunny climates, and are in season all year round. Our banana bread is always in stock and a great treat to enjoy any time of the year. My favorite time to enjoy banana bread is in the summer. Banana bread is a great summer treat. It is a healthy choice to take along on a picnic, to the beach or to a family dinner.

Patch: Why do you like this particular kind of baked good?
Schrass: Our banana bread is freshly made and tastes delicious. My favorite way to enjoy banana bread is to warm it up and serve it with chocolate ice cream and fresh berries.
Patch: How do you recommend using it?
Schrass: Banana bread is a great treat because there are so many ways to enjoy it. A slice of banana bread is great for breakfast. Also banana bread is great cut up and layered with fresh berries, vanilla pudding, and whipped cream, like a trifle. Another great way to serve banana bread is topped with peanut butter or chocolate.
