Whole Foods Weekly Pick: Grass Fed Beef

Each Sunday this month the Deerfield market will feature a special item on Patch.

Tired of always buying the same items at the grocery store? Sometimes Patch is too. So, we've teamed up with the in Deerfield for the month of June. Each Sunday, an employee will highlight a speciality item at the grocery story and fill you in on what's so good about it. This week we're sitting down with Eric Ditsch and talking about grass fed beef.

Patch: Tell me a little bit about this item.

Eric: Our pasture-raised, grass-fed beef comes from  a local producer in Doniphan, Missouri. These cattle spend their entire lives on these rolling hills and are never confined to feedlots. Cattle are not intended to consume grains. These animals spend their lives grazing on foliage and grassy plains, which is the way nature intended.

Eric: It’s grilling season! Plus, throughout the summer has great deals on a variety of cuts of meat.

For those who haven’t yet experienced grass-fed beef, summertime is perfect.

Patch: Why do you like this particular kind of beef?

Eric: Pasture-raised, grass-fed beef has a clean, rich flavor and lower fat content. These animals share the same stringent quality standards as all of our meats and poultry: no added hormones, no antibiotics ever, and vegetarian fed. And, this particular farm is rated step 4 in our 5-step program by the Global Animal Partnership (GAP).

Our GAP partnership is our way of communicating with customers various levels of how their meat is raised. By choosing to support higher welfare farmers and ranchers, we can collectively make a significant difference in the lives of billions of animals.
