Wilbat Wins Park District Scholarship

Deerfield High School graduate is currently a University of Michigan student.

, a graduate and University of Michigan freshman, won the first annual $1,000 Linda Gryziecki Scholarship awarded by the , according to a release from the Park District. 

Wilbat was selected from 25 applicants who have all either worked for the Park District or volunteered their efforts and have attained at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The award is named in honor of retired Park District Executive Director Linda Gryziecki. 

A psychology major at Michigan, Wilbat volunteers with stroke patients and helps people with aphasia. She has also been involved with , and Habitat for Humanity.

Starting her involvement with the Park District as a life guard and swim instructor early in her high school career, she has continued her association. While at Deerfield High School, she captained the Lacrosse team for two years, was a tutor and part of the program. 

Wilbat will be recognized for her achievements at a special ceremony at 7 p.m. May 21 at the .
