2 Dead, 4 Officers Injured in Des Plaines Hazmat Situation
Neighbors have been told they are not allowed to enter their homes due to ongoing situation.
Two men are dead and four Cook County Sheriff’s deputies were hospitalized in a hazardous materials situation at a home in the 9400 block of Harrison Street in unincorporated Des Plaines on Thursday.
A third person found unresponsive in the home was also hospitalized as of 8 p.m. Thursday.

The victims’ identities have not been released, but the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the deaths and a sheriff’s department official told the Chicago Tribune four officers were injured and hospitalized in the situation that unfolded around 4:30 p.m. about a block east of an Illinois building that houses the State Police and other agencies.
Stretches of Harrison Street and Dee Road have been closed to traffic.

A homeowner nearby told the Tribune he was not allowed to enter his home upon returning from work.
“I’m a little scared about it,” said Kumar Bommagala.
As of 8 p.m., all nearby residents were being allowed back inside their homes, but the cause of the hazardous situation had not been determined.
