Des Plaines 10-Year-Old Fatally Shoots Brother

A 15-year-old boy who was accidentally shot in the face by his sibling has died, authorities say.

DES PLAINES, IL — The boy who was accidentally shot in the face over the weekend in Des Plaines has died, according to the medical examiner.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Saturday, fire and police were dispatched to a home on the 2100 block of David Drive for a report of a possible gunshot wound, police said.

When officers arrived on scene, they learned that a 15-year-old victim had been accidentally shot in the face by his 10-year-old sibling, according to police.

The victim was taken to Lutheran General and was treated for life-threatening injuries, Des Plaines police said.

He died in hospital Monday, According to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

On Wednesday, Des Plaines Police and Maine Township High School officials confirmed the dead teen was Izaiah Franceschi. Police said they still investigating the incident and declined to confirm to the Journal & Topics whether the freshman Maine West High School student was home alone with his sibling at the time of the shooting, whose gun was used or how it ended up in the hands of a 10-year-old child.
