3 Family Members Killed, 2 Drivers Injured In Des Plaines Crash

A two-car crash at the intersection of Golf and Rand Sunday killed three family members riding in one vehicle.

DES PLAINES, IL — Three people died and two others were taken to the hospital after a two-car crash in Des Plaines Sunday evening, police said. Around 6:05 p.m., a Volkswagen headed northwest on Rand Road was turning turn left onto Golf Road when it was struck in its passenger side by an oncoming Lexus.

The force of the impact sent the VW and its four occupants spinning off of the road. The driver of the wrecked car was extricated by Des Plaines Fire Department rescuers and rushed to Lutheran General Hospital with life threatening injuries, according to police.

All three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

They were identified as Seif Dilji, 57, Edije Dilji, 48, and 20-year old Amra Dilji, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The three family members shared an address of the 8900 block of North Parkside in Des Plaines.

The driver of the oncoming vehicle, identified as the family's 16-year-old son, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lutheran General.

The driver of the Lexus, a 38-year-old Des Plaines man, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later released.

Police said alcohol was not involved in the accident. Evidence technicians are continuing to determine the speeds of the cars involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to Des Plaines police.
