Today's riddle: What gets wetter & wetter as it dries? 🤔 (Answer below!)
Weather forecast:
1. Drunken Woman Punches Cop In Stomach After Casino Ejection: Des Plaines PD (patch.com) — Des Plaines police say a Chicago woman was arrested after allegedly punching one officer and kicking another outside Rivers Casino on South River Road. Officers had responded to reports of an intoxicated patron refusing to leave, and she was later taken to the Des Plaines Police Department, where she was charged with aggravated battery to police and resisting arrest.
2. Settlement Reached In 5-Year Court Battle Over Use, Ownership Of Methodist Campground (journal-topics.com) — Des Plaines is poised to buy 22 of the 27 acres at the historic Methodist Campground for $4 million, preserving the land as public open space and addressing long-running safety and flooding concerns. Aldermen are expected to approve the settlement Monday, allowing the city to demolish unsafe structures, connect nearby forest preserves, and leave a smaller, improved five-acre campground for continued religious use.
3. Stephens Co-Sponsors Megaproject Bill That Passes Illinois House (journal-topics.com) — A major stadium and development bill backed by Rosemont Rep. Brad Stephens has cleared the Illinois House, and Des Plaines Sen. Laura Murphy says the Senate probably won’t vote on it this week. The measure would let huge projects, including a possible new Chicago Bears stadium, freeze property tax assessments for decades, aiming to spur long-term development and jobs.
4. Kerr enters guilty plea to manslaughter in death of Illinois man (whopam.com) — A Tennessee man has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the 2024 shooting death of 37-year-old Dmytro Sebeniuk of Des Plaines at a Pilot Travel Center in Christian County. The plea carries a recommended 15-year sentence, and the defendant still faces additional charges and extradition to Tennessee, while some seized property will be returned after final sentencing.
5. JUCO NEWS: Marver named Women's Basketball Head Coach at Harper College (whoopdirt.com) — A former Willows Academy coach from Des Plaines has been hired to lead the women’s basketball program at Harper College starting with the 2026–27 season. Jodi Marver brings a strong winning record and multiple coaching awards from her time in Des Plaines, plus recent college coaching experience, to a Hawks program aiming to grow its competitiveness and culture.
