National Night Out is an annual campaign intended to strengthen relationships between police departments and the communities they serve.

This year's Des Plaines event will include police and fire department vehicles, a demonstration by the police Tactical Response Team and an appearance by Des Plaines police K9 Jager.

Games, activities and displays from local community organizations will also be available.

"Last year's event was a success for not only our district, but the City of Des Plaines and the Des Plaines Police Department," Superintendent Michael Amadei said in a statement.

"We look forward to continuing this new tradition within our community and invite everyone to join us on our District 62 campus on August 4."

Limited picnic-table seating will be available. Attendees may bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets.

Portable restrooms and indoor facilities will be available. Alcohol is prohibited on District 62 property.

Registration Assistance

District 62 will also hold a registration night at Algonquin Middle School during the event.

Families will be able to receive assistance registering children and preparing for the 2026-27 school year.

Paraeducator Job Fair

A paraeducator job fair will be held at the Westerhold Early Learning Center.

Walk-ins are welcome, and on-site interviews will be available for kindergarten and special-education paraeducator positions.

Spanish, Polish and Russian speakers are encouraged to apply, district officials said.

The starting salary is $19.10 per hour, and the district said the positions include competitive pay and benefits.

Prospective applicants may register through the district's online job-fair form.

Food Trucks At Forest Elementary

The City of Des Plaines will also host a food-truck event from 5 to 8 p.m. that evening on the grounds of Forest Elementary School.

A variety of food vendors are expected to participate.
