Little Legends Soccer Academy

Enroll your young athletes in the Little Legends Soccer Academy this fall for a fun and engaging soccer experience. Designed specifically for ages 3 to 7, these classes encourage kids to come ordinary and leave legendary with sessions running all year round. Clinics on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday, 3v3 games on Friday. Saturday 10:00-12:00 pm / Tuesday 4:10-6:00 pm / Thursday 5:00-6:00 pm / Friday 5:00-6:00 pm

47 Years of Tradition Returns to Veterans Park!
The skies over Milwaukee’s lakefront will once again come alive with color and excitement as Gift of Wings hosts the IKEA Frank Mots International Kite Festival on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, 2026. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrNgcpp5Mn8" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrNgcpp5Mn8</a>
The event will run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday (until 5:00 PM on Sunday) at Veterans Park, a beautiful Milwaukee County park on the lakefront. The highlight of each day is the spectacular Grand Launch at Noon, when more than 600 kites will fill the sky at once.

Special Kids Activity
The first 100 kids to participate in the Window Nation “Kids Mad Dash” will receive a free kite courtesy of Gift of Wings and Window Nation! Watch as 100 colorful kites launch into the sky at the same time — it’s a sight you won’t want to miss. We will need a volunteer to untangle lines. Can I count on you 😊
Gift of Wings will also have a full selection of kites and delicious food available for purchase throughout the weekend.
The IKEA Frank Mots International Kite Festival is FREE to attend and offers plenty of FREE parking.

Networking, Expert Panel, and Annual Awards Ceremony at the Des Plaines Theatre on Monday, September 14

The Center of Concern is proud to announce a special&nbsp;free event dedicated to addressing how&nbsp;rising costs&nbsp;are&nbsp;impacting&nbsp;our community&nbsp;on Monday, September 14, 2026. The evening will start with appetizers and networking at 5:30 PM and an expert panel discussion and awards ceremony beginning at 6:30 PM.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The event will be hosted at the historic Des Plaines Theatre and will&nbsp;provide&nbsp;the opportunity for socializing,&nbsp;resource sharing,&nbsp;insightful discussions, and recognition of extraordinary&nbsp;community members&nbsp;who support the Center of Concern’s mission to enable vulnerable residents to live with dignity and independence.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Attendees&nbsp;will explore the resources, strategies, and partnerships that can increase access to housing, food, healthcare, and transportation&nbsp;for older adults and&nbsp;low-income individuals and families.&nbsp;There is no cost to&nbsp;attend,&nbsp;though donations are encouraged.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Guest speakers include&nbsp;Danita Childers,&nbsp;Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Cook County; Dr. Kiran Joshi,&nbsp;Chief Operating Officer of the Cook County Department of Public Health;&nbsp;John Schomberg,&nbsp;Assistant Secretary for Programs at the Illinois Department of Human Services; and Dian Slezak, President and CEO at AgeOptions. Senator Tammy Duckworth will provide virtual opening remarks, and&nbsp;Illinois State Representative Michelle Mussman will serve as the discussion&nbsp;moderator.&nbsp;

Center of Concern annual award recipients include&nbsp;Sister Kathleen Stadler,&nbsp;Volunteer of the Year; Kathy Zelm Gazzolo,&nbsp;Dee Heinrich Award; Park Ridge Mayor Marty Maloney,&nbsp;Excellence in Leadership&nbsp;Award;&nbsp;and&nbsp;Jewel Osco, Benny Velazquez,&nbsp;Partner of the Year&nbsp;Award. Also being recognized this evening are former Board members Tom Merlin and Cathy Thompson in appreciation of their dedicated service to the Center of Concern Board of Directors.
