Cheeseburger in Paradise Closes Abruptly

Cheeseburger in Paradise, which employed almost 100 staff members, has closed its doors after five years, The Daily Herald reported.

Owner Tom Fremarek blames the closure on a spike in rent that he said was more than $20,000 since 2009 and an increase in property taxes.

He said the most difficult part of the closing was telling the franchise's many employees. They have been given the option of relocating to two other Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurants in Downers Grove and Algonquin.

Nine businesses have closed in Metropolitan Square in the past four years, according to Fremarek.
