Chef's Knife Used In Man's Attempt To Kill Relatives: Prosecutor

A Des Plaines man is accused of attacking two relatives with a chef's knife during a family party on Sunday.

DES PLAINES, IL - A man from Des Plaines faces multiple charges after authorities say he tried to kill two of his relatives over the weekend during a family get-together. A judge has declared Muminur Rahman, 66 a "real and present threat" and ordered him held without bail after an alleged incident on Court Avenue on Sunday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Rahman is accused of using a stainless steel chef's knife to slash at and threaten one relative at the upstairs of the home and then going downstairs to to do the same to another relative.

Other relatives were able to wrestle Rahman away and held him down until police arrived, prosecutors said.
They said Rahman had previously threatened the two members of the family but had been invited to the event because one relative did not want him to feel "left out."

He is charged with two counts of attempted murder, home invasion and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
