Cops Save Disabled Man From Burning Building

Police rescued a man from a Des Plaines home as it was engulfed in flames Sunday morning.

DES PLAINES, IL — Rescuers saved a disabled man from a burning house in Des Plaines Sunday morning. Emergency personnel were called to a home in the 800 block of South Westgate Road around 8:40 a.m., police said.

The rear of the house was completely engulfed in flames when police arrived. Two elderly woman found on the front porch of the home with smoke billowing from inside told officers there was a disabled man still inside the house, according to police.

Police entered the home and saved the man inside. Everyone inside the home escaped unharmed, police said.

Des Plaines police said two officers were treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries, as the Des Plaines Fire Department extinguished the fire with the help of assisting agencies, according to a news release.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has been opened.
