State Rep. John D’Amico congratulated local firefighter Timothy Rottman for receiving the Medal of Valor award at the 22nd Annual Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial and Firefighter Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony last Tuesday.
“Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect us every single day, and we need to take the opportunity to show our respect and appreciation for their service,” D’Amico said. “I am glad to congratulate Tim for his well-deserved award and attend a beautiful ceremony to commemorate some of Illinois’ bravest.”

D’Amico joined firefighters from across the state to remember firefighters who died in service and recognize certain firefighters for their bravery and commitment. Rottman was on duty returning from a call when a group of citizens flagged down him and his fellow firefighters because of a nearby fire. A woman told Rottman a child was inside the burning home. Without hesitation, Rottman dove into the blazing home and rescued the child from the fire. Rottman, a paramedic in charge and Edison Park resident, was one of 11 other firefighters to receive the Medal of Valor award for courageous acts of heroism.
