The Illinois Department of Transportation completed a study of the top 20 most accident-prone intersections in Des Plaines two years ago to aid city officials in their decision on where to install the cameras, said Angela Burton, deputy police chief. The Golf and Rand road intersection, where the cameras were installed, was near the top of the list.
The study found the most dangerous intersection was Cumberland Circle at the intersection of Golf Road, Wolf Road and Northwest Highway, Burton said. Some of the other most dangerous intersections were:
- Golf and Rand roads
- Lee and Oakton streets
- Elm and Oak streets
- River and Golf roads
- Mount Prospect and Golf roads
