Des Plaines Halloween Sex Offender Map
Know who's in your neighborhood, and which houses to avoid on Halloween.

Before kids go out trick or treating on Halloween, fall is a good time to take an inventory of who is living in your neighborhood.
The Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act requires sex offenders to register with their local police department, including when they change their address, school and vehicle. They must do so for a required 10-year registration period, unless they are separately required to register for life.

Offenders are also prohibited from living within 500 feet of a school, daycare center, youth center or other facility that caters to children younger than 18 years old.
Des Plaines currently has 53 registered sex offenders listed on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry. Forty-seven of them are living in the community and four are incarcerated in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Among Des Plaines’ registered sex offenders, 33 offenders are considered sexual predators.
Michael Anthony DePew, 29, is listed as non-compliant on the sex offender registry for not maintaining accurate records. His last known address is 1231 S. Lee St., Apt. 223, Des Plaines. DePew was convicted of sexual exploitation of child. DePew was 21, his victim 15 at the time of the offense.
Convicted sexual predator Steven Bodemuller, 30, is listed as homeless on the sex offender registry. Bodemuller was 21 when he was caught and eventually convicted on child pornography charges. His victim was 17.
Registered sex offenders are prohibited from passing out candy on Halloween. They may not appear in a Halloween costume or other child-centered holiday character, such as Santa and the Easter Bunny, in public. Registered sex offenders, however, may wear a Halloween costume in their home, according to the Illinois Sex Offender Registry.
Pins on the map represent addresses of offenders convicted of sex crimes. Roll your cursor over the pins, and you will see more information pop up, including the registered sex offender’s name, address, current age, convictions, and the age of the offender and victim at the time of the offense.
You may want to avoid trick or treating at these houses and apartments on Halloween, or merely be aware of who’s living in your neighborhood during the rest of the year.
