Des Plaines Man Charged With His 17th DUI After Hit-And-Run: Report
A 52-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after fleeing the scene of a crash and giving police a fake ID, prosecutors say.

DES PLAINES, IL — A man charged with driving drunk after police said he fled the scene of a traffic crash and offered cops a fake drivers' license has already accumulated 16 DUI convictions, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Christopher Clingingsmith, 51, of Des Plaines, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated DUI and possession of a fake ID, according to prosecutors. He's accused of leaving the scene of a crash in Des Plaines before Arlington Heights police tracked him down later than night. He told them he had consumed seven beers, according to the Tribune.
Clingingsmith has 13 past felony convictions, and court records show they include possession of a controlled substance, aggravated DUI and aggravated fleeing and eluding, the Tribune reports. He was ordered held at Cook County Jail on a $400,000 bond Thursday. His next court appearance has been scheduled for June 29 in Rolling Meadows, according to court records.
