A 52-year-old Delaware man was charged with battery and resisting a police officer after an altercation at a Des Plaines hotel.
Des Plaines Police were called to a hotel in the 2900 block of South River Road about 10 p.m. on June 22. Police said that Kenneth Brighton was kicking the exterior of a cab after a dispute with the driver over the fare. The incident was resolved by police and Brighton released.
About an hour later police were called back to the hotel after an altercation that began about 11 p.m. between Brighton and hotel employees. Police reports state that Brighton was in the hotel bar and became abusive toward a patron who had a limp, calling him "gimpy." The police report states that Brighton also used a racial epithet.
Brighton was asked to leave by an employee and Brighton grabbed him by the collar, police stated. When an employee went to call the police, Brighton threw a glass at someone, picked up a chair and threatened someone with it, and grabbed a bartender who attempted to intervene by the collar, police report states. Brighton also kicked one employee as he was subdued, the police stated.
Police arrested Brighton. Police reports state that officers struggled with Brighton in trying to get him into the station, leading to the resisting police arrest. Brighton also sustained a cut on his head. Police said he was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital where he was treated and released back into police custody.
