How much do diapers cost? How many does a baby use in a day? How does a single mom earning minimum wage pay for them?
One in three women will have to choose between buying food for the family or diapers for the baby. Do you know which one she chooses? To buy diapers. Do you know why? Because although there are food pantries in nearly every community, free diapers are incredibly scarce.
No government program such as Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides even emergency supplies of diapers.

There are four area churches attempting to meet local diaper needs through the Breakfast with Baby program. Once a month families are invited for a hot breakfast, free diapers, and gently-used baby clothes and toys. Can you help The Salvation Army, Bridge Church, and Faith Alliance Bible Church in Des Plaines, or St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mount Prospect?
Maybe you could host a diaper drive and time your donation for Diaper Need Awareness Week. Or set aside money each week for the next four weeks and donate between September 25 - October 1.
