The Friends of the Parks present a three-week carp and crappie fishing contest in Des Plaines' Lake Opeka. Competitors must register at the clubhouse on their first day of fishing and then report their catches to the clubhouse for verification. Staff will keep a runny tally and winners from various age groups will be selected. The contest is being helt to help remove carp and crappie to improve the growth of healthier fish and improving water quality.
