Ex-Des Plaines Dean of Discipline Punished for Selling Heroin

Brian Thurman was found guilty Thursday of distributing heroin after an informant turned him in.

A former dean of discipline for a Des Plaines school was convicted on drug charges in U.S. District Court on Thursday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Brian Thurman, 44, was found guilty of distributing heroin but was acquitted of possession of guns in connection of a drug crime. His sentencing will be Dec. 12, and he faces a minimum of five years in prison, the report stated.

Thurman, who worked at Joseph Academy at the time, was arrested in 2013 after a man who bought heroin from Thurman turned informant after being picked up with the drugs in Minnesota, the Sun-Times reports. That man fingered Thurman as his dealer, claiming the educator sold him 150 grams of heroin in September 2013, according to the report.

Initially, law enforcement officials claim they flipped Thurman, who lived in Chicago's Austin neighborhood, after he was arrested, the report stated. But he then had a change of heart and refused to become an informant himself, the report added.
