Fundraising for Burhan Academy, Biggest Islamic institution in the US
Aim of the fundraiser event hosted by the Muslim community in the Chicago suburbs & Elgin was to raise funds for buying of Bankrupt School
On Friday, August 23, 2024, the Muslim Community from Chicago and the Suburbs had a fundraiser event with the goal of raising money for the acquisition of Bankrupt School in Elgin. Burhan Academy will be the school's new name. Burhan Academy is going to be the biggest Islamic school in the nation.The Event was held at Shalimar Banquet Lombart, Illinois. The Elgin Muslim community is buying Elgin Academy, a private school that closed in June2024, 185 years after filing into bankruptcy, Muslim community intention of establishing an Islamic school for students in preschool through the 12th grade.
The banks that acquired the property verified that the 350 Park St. property is listed for $3.7 million, and the sale is scheduled to go through later this month. And August 29th, 2024 is the final closing date. By the end of the event, the organizers aim to have raised several million dollars to purchase the 18-acre campus.
The program started with Maulana Rayyan Khan recited and translated the Quran.
Welcome and Greetings from Dr. Hamid Nazeer, who serves on Burhan's board of directors, "The promotion of education, teaching, and knowledge, which is the hallmark of our Islamic civilization," was the topic of his opening remarks. He also provided a detailed overview of the campus's five buildings, which include classrooms, an art gallery, a gymnasium, offices for admissions, development, administration, and alumni relations, and a sports complex with fields, tennis courts, and a track.
During a video call, Rush Hospital CEO and Pakistani American surgeon Dr. Jawad Shah gave a compelling speech regarding the need of Islamic education in the US.MCC Academy's principal, Mr. Habeeb Quadri, spoke about What differentiates an Islamic school from a local school.Ahmed Nadeem, a prospective Burhan Academy student, expressed his personal views about the type of education he would like to get in America as a Muslim in order to succeed in both the world and his iman.
Burhan Academy Secretary Dr. Mohammad Tajjamul Hussain (CMMA) outlines the importance of Burhan Academy for children and our future generations. Renowned Chicagoland Mufti Azeemuddin Ahmed gave an additional observation: Teachers will integrate an "Islamic perspective into the academic curriculum" by using a holistic approach to learning in order to "equip students with a comprehensive understanding of various subjects at the highest level of academic excellence while instilling Islamic values, knowledge, and principles."
The purpose of the event was achieved financially by Ustadh Ubaidullah Evans, a well-known Islamic scholar. With the promise of Burhan Academy being founded and sponsored by the Chicagoland Muslim Community, the evening event raised $1 million.
According to Mufti Yasir Nadeem, President of the Burhan Academy, the school aims to provide "an excellent academic program under the auspices of their Islamic faith."
"Our goal at Burhan Academy is to guarantee that students receive a comprehensive education that fulfills academic standards and incorporates Islamic teachings," he continued.
Following a successful fundraising campaign and the closing dua from Mufti Yasir Nadeem, the occasion concluded with dinner.
