Gas Explosion Rips Through Apartment Building Near Des Plaines (UPDATED)

The explosion happened in the basement of the 3-story building, and 2 people suffered minor injuries.

DES PLAINES, IL—Firefighters responded Thursday morning to reports of a gas explosion in the basement of an apartment building in the 9900 block of Linda Lane, according to website ChicagoFireMap.net.

The explosion, which happened at about 9:15 a.m., blew out windows and walls of the building in Maine Township, near Des Plaines. The building's first and second floors were exposed when crews arrived on the scene, according to a Facebook update by Chicagoland FireGround Scanner.

No serious injuries were initially reported by the North Maine Township Fire Protection Distric, ChicagoFireMap.net said. The Park Ridge Herald-Advocate, however, reports that two people suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
